Plant based is hugely trending and trust us, it’s not a fad diet. This is very much beyond a diet and it is a lifestyle that is here to stay. Here are the many reasons why choosing whole, plant foods whenever possible (plant-based foods that are processed are reasonable alternatives) is going to be the smallest, yet biggest impact you can make on your life.

1. You Are Running Towards Reduced Risk for Disease

Heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, kidney stones, liver disease, blood cancers, asthma, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, breast cancer, depression, prostate cancer and Parkinson’s disease all can be significantly impacted by a whole foods plant-based diet. Do not underestimate the power of plants.

2. You Can Win and Have Your Carbs

Wait, but isn’t a low carb or macro diet healthy?  Studies have shown that high-protein, low carb diets work great to help you lose weight fast, but they also put you at a higher risk for premature death. High animal protein, low carb diets actually increases the chances of heart disease, stroke and cancer.

3. Plants Are Your Gut’s Best Friend

Fiber only comes from plants. One of the greatest predictors of good gut health is a variety of antioxidant, phytonutrient, and fiber-rich foods.

3. Keeps You Regular and Feeling Good

Did you know that meat and fish can take as long as two days to fully digest? The proteins and fats they contain are complex molecules that take longer for your body to pull apart. The longer food sits in your gut, the higher chances of colon cancer. By contrast, fruits and vegetables, which are high in fiber, can move through your system in less than a day.

4. Boosts Your Immunity

What you eat affects your immune system because 70 to 80 percent of your immune system resides in your gut. When you benefit the gut by eating plants full of fiber, you also benefit the immune system.

5. Gets You In A Better Mood

Gut bacteria houses about 95 percent of the body's supply of serotonin, which influences both mood and GI activity.  Gut bacteria depend on fiber, which is naturally found in whole plant foods. Eating plant-based results in improved mental clarity and improved mood as the body is able to produce mood-enhancing hormones more efficiently.

6. Eat To Your Heart’s Content–You Can’t Go Wrong

You can eat as much as you want! Minimally processed plant foods are loaded with fiber and water, which make you feel full without delivering as many calories.

7. Take Back Control of What You Crave

Veggies such as kale, spinach, cabbage, and other leafy greens are especially beneficial: A compound in dark green leafies called thylakoid can actually turn off your hunger switch and help fight cravings for foods that might not do your body any favors (i.e. added sugars and saturated fats).

8. It Optimizes Your Body Size

When you cut out the foods that aren’t doing your body good, it allows your body to work more efficiently and can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

9. Improves Autoimmune Diseases

In many cases, individuals report a significant reduction, or even total reversal, of autoimmune disease symptoms when they cut out meat and dairy.

10. When You Help Yourself And Help the Planet

Eating less meat will help prevent deforestation, curb global warming, reduce pollution, save oil reserves, lessen the burden on rural America, decrease human rights abuses, improve public health, and help eliminate animal abuse.

See? You Can Make An Impact With What You Choose To Eat

The decision to switch to a plant-based diet will help improve your health, energy levels, long-term health for you and our planet. What you eat matters and we want you here for a long time, so eat more plants!
