Sweet & Not So Spicy Air Fryer Tempeh

Serves: 2-4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes

This crispy, flavorful tempeh is the perfect balance of sweet, a bit spicy, and savory—without any oil! Perfect for grain bowls, wraps, or as a protein-packed snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8 oz) block tempeh
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for crispiness)
  • 1-2 teaspoons Mambo Sauce for topping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the tempeh to reduce bitterness: Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the whole block of tempeh. Boil for 5 minutes, then drain and pat dry.
  2. Cut the tempeh: Once cool enough to handle, cut the tempeh into bite-sized cubes.
  3. Make the marinade: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, hot sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cornstarch.
  4. Marinate the tempeh: Add the tempeh cubes to the bowl and toss until evenly coated. Let sit for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  5. Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange tempeh in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway through, until crispy.
  6. Top with Mambo Sauce & enjoy! Perfect for grain bowls, wraps, salads, or as a tasty side dish.
