Oil-Free Black Bean Hummus

Oil-Free Black Bean Hummus

 Oil-Free Black Bean Hummus
Serves: 4-6 • Total Time: 10 mins • FODMAP Rating: High

This Oil-Free Black Bean Hummus recipe is a flavorful twist on traditional hummus, using black beans and aquafaba (the liquid from canned beans) to keep it creamy without any added oil. The combination of tahini, lime juice, garlic, and spices creates a rich and tangy dip that’s perfect for veggies, crackers, or as a spread. This hummus comes together in about 10 minutes, making it a quick and easy recipe to whip up for snacks, appetizers, or meal prep.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, drained but reserve the liquid (aquafaba)
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2-4 tablespoons aquafaba (or more as needed for consistency)
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Blend the Base:
    • In a food processor or blender, combine the drained black beans, tahini, lime juice, garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add Aquafaba:
    • Gradually add 2-4 tablespoons of the reserved black bean liquid (aquafaba) to help blend and make the hummus smooth.
  3. Blend Until Smooth:
    • Process the mixture until it’s creamy and smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. If it's too thick, continue adding aquafaba, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste and Adjust:
    • Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning with more lime juice, salt, or cumin as needed.
  5. Serve and Garnish:
    • Transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with smoked paprika and fresh cilantro or parsley, if desired.
