Crumbled Tofu

Servings: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes (plus pressing time)
Cook Time: 20–30 minutes
Total Time: ~35–45 minutes

This savory crumbled tofu is packed with flavor and mimics the texture of ground meat—perfect for tacos, pasta sauce, soups, and more. It's versatile, protein-rich, and easy to prep using either an air fryer or oven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block firm or extra-firm tofu (14–16 oz), pressed

  • 3–4 tbsp soy sauce or tamari

  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste (or ketchup in a pinch)

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp oregano

  • ½ tsp chili powder (optional, or sub Italian seasoning for a milder flavor)

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • Splash of balsamic vinegar or lime juice (optional, for depth)

Instructions:

1. Prep the Tofu

Press tofu for at least 10–15 minutes to remove excess water (wrap in a towel and set a heavy pan on top if you don’t have a tofu press).
Crumble the tofu into a large bowl using your hands or a fork—think ground beef texture.

2. Season

Add all the seasonings to the crumbled tofu and mix well until everything is evenly coated.

3. Cook

Air Fryer Method:

  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).

  • Spread tofu in a single layer in the basket (use parchment or a silicone liner if needed).

  • Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until browned and slightly crispy.

Oven Method:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Spread tofu evenly in a single layer.

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until it’s firm and golden.

🔄 Use It In:

  • Tacos 🌮

  • Pasta sauce 🍝

  • Chili or soup 🥣

  • Burrito bowls 🌯

  • Over salad for a protein boost 🥗
