The Ultimate Vegan Chocolate Hummus (Oil-Free)

Servings: 4-6 | Prep Time: 5 minutes

This chocolate hummus is irresistibly creamy, naturally sweet, and satisfies any chocolate craving!

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 4-5 tbsp maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2-3 tbsp unsweetened plant milk (soy, almond, or oat)
  • 1 tbsp almond butter or tahini (optional for creaminess, but still oil-free!)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ¼ tsp instant espresso powder (to enhance the chocolate flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chickpeas:
    • Rinse and drain the chickpeas thoroughly. For ultra-smooth hummus, peel the chickpeas by gently rubbing them between your fingers (optional, but worth it!).
  2. Blend:
    • Add the chickpeas, cocoa powder, maple syrup, plant milk, almond butter (if using), vanilla extract, and salt to a food processor or high-speed blender.
  3. Process:
    • Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. If it’s too thick, add more plant milk 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste & Adjust:
    • Taste the hummus and adjust sweetness or chocolate intensity. Add more maple syrup for sweetness or cocoa powder for a richer flavor.
  5. Serve:
    • Scoop into a bowl and serve with fruit, pretzels, or rice cakes. You can also spread it on toast or use it as a frosting substitute.

Tips for Extra Deliciousness:

  • Add a Topping: Sprinkle with mini vegan chocolate chips, cacao nibs, or shredded coconut for added texture.
  • For a Peppermint Twist: Add ¼ tsp peppermint extract instead of vanilla for a holiday-inspired flavor.
  • Chill Before Serving: Let the hummus sit in the fridge for 30 minutes to enhance the flavors.
